The Colorado High School Activities Association (CHSAA) season is our official high school season and the second of two seasons we play each school year. The team competes as the Chaparral Wolverines, a co-op of Chaparral, Legend, and Ponderosa High Schools, administered through Chaparral High School Athletics. Students from nearby schools without their own hockey program can also be cleared to play. We currently have players from Lutheran, CEC, eDCSD, Elizabeth, Kiowa, and Elbert.

How to Register

Registration runs through two systems: our team website (CrossBar) and the Chaparral High School athletics portal. Start early. The physical and school clearance take time, and you cannot step on the ice for tryouts until you are cleared.

Hockey starts before every other winter sport. The school's winter registration deadline is later than our first tryout, so do not plan around it. Finish every step well before tryouts begin.

1. Register for tryouts on our site. Use the Registration block on the right side of this page (below this content on phones). You will get a CrossBar confirmation email with instructions for the school registration and a link to the required CHSAA physical form.
2. Register with Chaparral High School. For 2026-27, all players, regardless of which school they attend, register for winter sports through the Chaparral athletics portal (Arbiter Sports). Log in or create an account and follow the steps. You can also get there from chswolverines.org by clicking Registration.

   Not at Chaparral, Legend, or Ponderosa? Two extra steps are required. Please start the athlete-only enrollment first. You cannot pay the participation fee in mySchoolBucks until it is processed.

   • Enroll at Chaparral as an athlete-only student. Email the Chaparral Athletic Secretary to start the process. Contact information is under Contact Us on the Chaparral Arbiter page. This must be redone each school year.
   • Request to play for Chaparral. Email the Douglas County School District Assistant Director of Activities and Athletics. Contact information is under Contact Us on the DCSD Athletics page. A copy-and-paste email template is in Common Questions. You can do this at the same time as the athlete-only enrollment.
3. Upload a current physical in Arbiter. CHSAA requires its own physical form. Download the CHSAA physical form, have it completed, and upload it as part of your Arbiter registration.
4. Pay both school fees through mySchoolBucks.
   • $200 hockey participation fee: use the hockey link below. Parents can also find it in mySchoolBucks. Make sure you pay the hockey fee, not another winter sport.

5. Confirm you are cleared. The school clears you once your Arbiter registration, physical, and participation fee are all complete. Your tryout fee must also be paid before you can try out. Athletes are cleared one at a time by the Chaparral Athletics Office, so finish early and be patient. The coaching staff cannot clear players.
6. Try out. Tryouts are generally two 1-hour sessions.
7. Accept your offer. Players selected receive an offer through CrossBar. Accept it (no payment at this step) to be added to the roster and team communications. An offer you have not accepted does not put you on the team.
8. Pay season dues. You will receive a mySchoolBucks link for season dues. The amount varies by year and is shared during the tryout process.

Fees & Payments

All CHSAA fees and dues are paid to Chaparral High School through mySchoolBucks, not through CrossBar.

Academic Eligibility

CHSAA eligibility is managed by the Chaparral Athletics Office. For this season, the program follows Chaparral grade standards for every player. If your own school has stricter standards, those apply.

• You must be passing at least 5 classes.
• You may not have more than one F. A player taking only 5 classes with one F is ineligible.
• Grades are pulled every Tuesday morning. Reports of D's and F's go to the athletic office.
• Once your grade improves, you must notify the athletic office yourself. Reinstatement is not automatic.
• The athletic office has grade access only for Chaparral, Legend, and Ponderosa students. Players from other schools must send their grades to the athletic office every week and follow up directly with the athletic office.
