HPHL (Spring)
In the spring, Wolverines Hockey Club fields teams in the High Plains Hockey League (HPHL). Teams are built from the same school boundaries as our CPHL and CHSAA seasons.
HPHL runs on its own website. This page explains the season. Registration, schedules, and team information live on the High Plains Hockey League site, not on wolverines-hockey.org. Once the season starts, check the HPHL site for your games and practices.
Season at a Glance

| Eligibility | Current high school players. Eighth graders entering high school in the fall do not qualify. See the HPHL site for full league rules. |
| Teams | Typically one Varsity and one JV team, with more added when registration numbers allow. |
| Practices | One per week, about 5–6 over the season, primarily at Family Sports Center and South Suburban Sports Complex. Locations vary with ice availability. |
| Games | Roughly 10–15 games including playoffs, 1–2 per weekend, Friday through Sunday. We play in the South Division, so most games stay close to Parker, with 1–2 road games possible as far as Breckenridge or Colorado Springs. |
| Coaching Staff | Often different from our fall and winter staff, giving our primary coaches a break. |
How to Register
- Get a current USA Hockey registration. HPHL falls under USA Hockey and requires one. Register at usahockey.com.
- Check the details. The block on the right side of this page (below this content on phones) shows this spring's tryout dates and estimated cost.
- Register on the HPHL site. Sign up through the High Plains Hockey League website, not here.
- Try out. Players are placed on Wolverines teams after tryouts.
- Follow the HPHL site all season. Your team, schedule, and updates are posted there.
Fees & Dues
HPHL has two separate costs.
Every player pays this when registering on the HPHL site. It goes to the league, not the team.
Collected by each team once rosters are set. Covers the team's league participation fee, ice, referees, and small operating costs like jerseys.
Team dues are set once we know how many players registered and how many teams we can field. The estimated cost for the current season is shown in the block on this page. Payment details are shared with players once rosters are set.
Common Questions
Why don't I see my HPHL schedule on wolverines-hockey.org?
HPHL schedules and team pages are managed on the High Plains Hockey League site. Check there for games, practices, and updates during the spring season.
What happens if there aren't enough players for another team?
If we can't field an additional team, extra players are released to the league as free agents so another club can pick them up.
Can an eighth grader play in the spring?
No. HPHL requires players to be in high school now. Incoming freshmen can look at Summer Skate.
